Gynae Robotic & Laparoscopic surgery

Gynecologic robotic and laparoscopic surgery are advanced surgical techniques used to perform procedures within the female reproductive system with greater precision and less invasiveness compared to traditional open surgery.

Laparoscopic Surgery: Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery, involves making small incisions in the abdomen through which a laparoscope (a thin, lighted tube with a camera) and specialized surgical instruments are inserted. The surgeon views the internal organs on a monitor and performs the surgery by manipulating the instruments externally. This approach typically results in less pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times compared to open surgery.
Robotic Surgery: Robotic-assisted surgery takes laparoscopic surgery to the next level by employing robotic systems to enhance the surgeon's precision and control. The surgeon sits at a console and operates robotic arms that hold the surgical instruments. The system translates the surgeon's hand movements into precise movements of the instruments inside the patient's body. Robotic surgery offers increased dexterity, 3D visualization, and improved ergonomics for the surgeon. This can lead to even more precise procedures, especially in delicate areas like the pelvis.

In gynecology, these techniques are commonly used for various procedures including:

Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus.

Oophorectomy: Removal of one or both ovaries.

Myomectomy: Removal of uterine fibroids.

Endometriosis Surgery: Removal of endometrial tissue growths.

Pelvic Floor Reconstruction: Repair of pelvic organ prolapse.

Treatment of Gynecologic Cancers: Such as ovarian, cervical, or endometrial cancer.

These minimally invasive approaches offer several benefits over traditional open surgery, including smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and lower risk of complications such as infections and adhesions. However, not all patients are suitable candidates for these techniques, and the decision to undergo robotic or laparoscopic surgery should be made in consultation with a qualified gynecologic surgeon.
